Young beagle puppies are being forced to inhale either an industrial chemical or cigarette smoke to determine maximum toxicity levels. In this case study, masks are fitted to their faces. Sometimes the beagle puppies undergo thracheostomy, in which smoke is pumped through a tube directly into a hole cut in the dog’s throat. Some labs have been known to force puppies to smoke up to 30 cigarettes a day. Often times the puppies are force-fed lethal chemicals until they become sick, suffer from seizures, collapse or finally die. The puppies which survive these tests will have their blood tested. Eventually they will be killed and their bodies dissected. These puppies live in cages and typically never experience sunlight. Because of their docile nature and enduring trust in humans the beagle is the model specimen for animal research for industrial chemicals, pulmonary and cardiology studies and some behavior cognitive studies. Many are bred for the purpose of animal experimentation. Depending on the laboratory some beagles can be rescued but most will die painful deaths due to these experiments.
