Oath of God’s Perspective – Animal Welfare
before reading this article as the problem must first be understood.

The Church’s Mistake: The church’s mistake has been its single focus on the sound bites coming from a small pool of activist organizations rather than focusing on the problem of animal welfare itself.  In essence they have thrown the baby out with the bathwater without possessing the facts or filtering through the issues.  In the arena of animal welfare the Body of Christ has insufficiently defended God’s creation from misery and abuse and clearly repentance is in order. .

The abuses in the factory farms are well documented and indefensible and Oath of God Ministries condemns these inhumane practices.  The databases relevant to biotechnology and bio-medicine where animal testing is performed are stored at the NCBI which is a part of the National Library of Medicine, a branch of the NIH.  The database is available for public viewing and clearly shows an historical stream of animal experiments with questionable purposes using tax payer money.  The undercover videos filmed by activists inside the research laboratories and factory farms are frequently turned over to law enforcement for prosecutorial purposes and the films have also educated the national population in better understanding the corruption behind the scenes.

During this Laodicean church age we have seen some of the most oppressive cruelties and utterly corrupt processes imposed on animals in the history of our nation.  Instead of embracing animal welfare from a godly standpoint in the stature of a William Wilberforce who was both a Christian abolitionist and strong proponent of animal welfare, both believers and the pulpit have turned a blind eye and have become to a great extent part of the problem.

God has the answer for every medical cure but is anyone asking Him?

Placing steel bolts in a female baboon’s head to see the affects of stress on her menstrual cycle is an archaic process.  It is void of any scientific merit that can be practically applied to the female adult human’s hormonal or reproductive system which is extremely complex and requires a complete analysis using human data for the female gender.

Electrocuting the bottom of a dog’s cage to induce depression so that depression can be studied has no bearing on the plethora of reasons human’s suffer from depression.

Surgically implanting delivery tubes into a pregnant monkey so that nicotine can be infused into her fetus’s body when meaningful & completed data already exists on this topic for humans is also considered a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Cutting off all the skin on a live mouse or rat’s penis, electrically stimulating the organ for five minutes, and subsequently injecting the animals with chemicals to see if they can sustain an erection is squandering taxpayer dollars in the sum of $2.8 million per study.  Some of these sex studies in mice or rats might win a fee as high as $4.5 million.  That is a great deal of money for a university’s science department for an experiment that provides little scientific merit.

Removing a newborn kitten from its mother, sewing its eyes shut and keeping it in isolation indefinitely to study sight deprivation in humans has little scientific merit especially when a blind human would have been a more suitable model for this type of study.  Ample human models as well as extensive data are readily available on human blindness to satisfy the objectives of this study.

All of the above mentioned experiments are a meager sampling of a much more widespread problem using tax payer dollars.  Yet the universities will seek this grant money year after year oftentimes to repeat the same unmerited experiment using taxpayer dollars while the animals suffer in abject misery and where no scientific merit is gained

The NIH has already admitted that billions of dollars have been lost over the past several decades by implementing animal experiments and the previously described experiments are clear evidence as to why.  Therefore we should be very concerned as to how our tax monies are being spent by a behemoth government that is unable to monitor itself.  We see a picture of diametrically opposed values when NIH admits that billions and billions of dollars have been wasted on animal experiments for several decades while vaunting that it has increased the economy by it.  The NIH”s admittance logically points to an artificial stimulus program which benefits a nation of wealthy biotech research companies and universities.  The NIH’s objective is to find cures not benefit the economy.

There is, however, another concern at stake.  Since the NIH has already admitted that animal research has not been working for decades and billions of dollars have been lost – the research profession is rapidly migrating to the use of human cells as alternative models.  The behemoth pharmaceutical companies are doing the same.  Oath of God Ministries does not and will not support embryonic stem cell research or the use of body parts or tissues from aborted fetuses as alternative models for animal research.  In many research projects, human cells have been derived from adults and children for research purposes and we find these cell models to be appropriate for research purposes.

On the consumer side, people including believers are exposed to a steady stream of TV advertisements created by pharmaceutical companies only to be followed by a steady stream of advertisements from law firms who are suing the pharmaceutical companies for drugs that did more harm than good.   Animals such as chimpanzees and dogs are frequently used in pharmaceutical studies despite the fact that the NIH recently admitted, We have moved away from studying human disease in humans,” he lamented. “We all drank the Kool-Aid on that one, me included. With the ability to knock in or knock out any gene in a mouse—which “can’t sue us,” Zerhouni quipped—researchers have over-relied on animal data.  “The problem is that it hasn’t worked, and it’s time we stopped dancing around the problem…We need to refocus and adapt new methodologies for use in humans to understand disease biology in humans.” (1)   The behemoth pharmaceutical companies are now admitting to the same mistakes.  Clearly the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

Are believers resting too heavily on pharmaceutical drugs and over the counter medicines rather than reaching out to Jesus for healing?  Do believers declare boldly, “We are healed by His stripes”.  Did not Christ Jesus ask “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”  (Luke 18:8)  When it comes to a pharmaceutical dependency the answer is a resounding “No” and both mankind and animals are suffering for it.  Humans have died in clinical trials taking pharmaceuticals that worked well in animals.  Many pharmaceutical drugs continue to be manufactured with serious side effects that are harmful to humans.  Animals suffer immeasurably in research laboratories in the development of these failed drugs.  This is all due to the fact that animals are physiologically, anatomically, biochemically histologically among so many countless other reasons totally incomparable to human beings.(2)  Scripture also states that God made “each according to its own kind”.

It’s difficult to find miracles in the House of God when congregants are grossly dependent on every over-the-counter or pharmaceutical drug some of which are administered for the slightest condition.  Everyone wants to see miracles but is the Body of Christ walking in faith where God is given something to honor?  “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)  Please go to our Healing Testimony section and see how willing God is to heal when we walk in faith.  We also suggest that the reader visit our article “Why Doesn’t God Heal?“.

Listening to ministry leaders on television praise medical research for the discovery of the Ebola vaccine when in fact cell lines from aborted babies were used in its development is almost as embarrassing as watching evangelical leaders take the ice bucket challenge which helps to fund embryonic research.  Scripture warns us not to give the appearance of evil or to do evil.  God has nothing to do with embryonic research or the continual use of cell lines from aborted babies for vaccine research and God is clearly not approving the many archaic and inhumane experiments performed on animals for profit and greed.

Our Heavenly Father does not approve of any factory farm process which oppresses an animal to unimaginable confinement and psychotic breakdowns.  No Christian believer should be purchasing factory farm meat under any circumstances when higher grades of pasture-fed product are available as well as a more nutritious plant based diet.  Both options are far more merciful than buying factory farm meat.

God also has the answer in feeding a nation but does anyone care to install His humane animal husbandry and agricultural designs?  There are myriad corrupt practices throughout our culture and if individually separated and analyzed any one of them is more than sufficient to justify God’s judgment over our nation.  At the root of our nation’s corporate agribusiness arena is greed and corruption.  Oath of God Ministry predicts food shortages in America which will be a direct result of ignoring God’s animal husbandry and agricultural practices which in itself is a form of idolatry.  Many officials also suspect that human trafficking has infiltrated both the factory farms and slaughter houses where both documented and undocumented workers are exploited for the purpose of forced labor.  Here the corporate owners can be assured of total silence regarding both their alleged illegal employment practices and inhumane abuses against the animals.

As far as the fraudulent animal research experiments for money, which is a very widespread problem, Oath of God Ministries predicts that the NIH will continue to struggle with budget restrictions and we will see China and other nations advance ahead of us in due time using practices that are equally questionable.

Nor have Christians prayed with understanding to reach a balance between the reduction of animals, the refinement of techniques used in animal experimentation and the replacement of animals used in research laboratories and universities across America.  Both activists and researchers call these objectives the 3R’s.  The reduction methods would allow comparable amounts of stored data to be obtained and shared while using fewer and fewer animals.  Refinement methods and techniques would minimize the pain and distress that the animals experience during these experiments and the replacement methods would ultimately obtain alternatives to animal research whereby the need for any sentient animal is altogether eliminated.

As the NIH advances towards a more intelligent technology for medical research where animals are no longer needed in these painful and invasive techniques, we will look back and see how repetitively pointless and primitively barbaric many of these experiments have been and how much of it was due to greed and avarice.  Lastly and from a comparative standpoint, the animal husbandry and slaughter of animals in the bible, whether for consumption or sacrifice, was administered in a relatively humane manner. This has not been the case for decades in America’s factory farms and there is a public outcry for change.
