I was planning to put my home on the market to relocate.  One of the bedroom ceiling fixtures needed to be repaired by an electrician.  I prayed about the repair.  I told God that I would pay market price for my Christian friend Randy, who was an electrician, to make the repair.  Randy normally provided me with discounted prices for his work.  I pondered as to when I should call him.  I had not spoken with him for at least a full year when 2 nights later he called me “out of the blue”.

I asked him to schedule the repair.  I told him I would pay complete market price – no discounts.  The next weekend, he came over and worked on the ceiling fixture.  Since it was close to lunchtime, he was planning to have lunch and asked if I wanted to join him.  I said, “Yes”.  After lunch he explained the problems he was having with his girlfriend whom he dearly loved.  He wanted to marry her.  Although he felt that she too loved him – she would not state her love nor would she accept marriage.  He felt something was wrong.  I asked if I could pray for him.  He agreed.

After prayer I turned to Randy and said, “In 3 weeks you will receive your answer.”  During prayer I felt that this young woman was being suppressed by her mother.  I felt that she never received any encouragement.  I had only compassion for this young woman.

Randy was unable to finish the repair that same day.  He said that he’d call again to set-up the next appointment but I hadn’t heard from him in quite a while so I called him.  (It was 3 weeks later).  He was so excited to tell me that he and his girlfriend were finally engaged.  He told me that his girlfriend’s mother died and that his girlfriend finally said, “I love you”.  She accepted his proposal for marriage.

He was so grateful that he wanted to provide me with a discounted price but I told him I couldn’t accept.  I promised the Lord that I would pay him full market price.
