Atheism and Darwinism in America’s Research Labs
It is true that God can use an atheist or an evolutionist to discover a cure for disease. God can reveal to anyone at anytime whatever He desires within the research arena. We believe, however, that many researchers have become self-absorbed in seeking the ultimate truth in the anatomy of an animal void of any compassion towards God’s creation as well as excluding God from the equation altogether.
In a 4 year study conducted by Elaine Howard Ecklund, between 2005 – 2008, 64% of the 1,700 elite scientists from the nation’s top research universities indicated that they do not believe in God or do not know if there is a God and there’s no way to find out. This was broken down to 34% were atheist with 30% as agnostic. An additional 27% indicated that they believe in a higher power that is not God, believe in God only sometimes or believe in God but have some doubts.(1) In a separate 2009 Pew Research Center poll (48%) stated that they have no religious affiliation (meaning they describe themselves as atheist, agnostic or nothing in particular).(2) It is reasonable to say that the majority of researchers are proponents of the theory of evolution despite their religious predisposition. In Cynthia Delgado’s article “Finding the Evolution in Medicine” in NIH Record: Vol. LVIII, No. 15 , she quotes Dr. Brian Alters an international leader in education and the author of the best-selling book Defending Evolution in the Classroom as stating, “99.9 percent of scientists accept evolution.”
Concerned that surveys show that 54% of college students who don’t see the value of evolution in medical research, Alters responded, “Many university students have misconceptions about evolution that are amazingly ubiquitous, noted Alters. They believe that evolution is not pertinent to medical research or practice and has no relevance to AIDS, for example, or to antibiotic resistance in microbes.”(3 ) In the same article Delgado also quotes Dr. Eric Green the scientific director of NHGRI and a distinguished scientist in the field of genomics. “Green credited the work of Charles Darwin, described in The Origin of the Species, as laying the foundation for one of the most powerful tools available for interpreting the human genome sequence. Darwin wrote that it’s not the strongest or most intelligent that survives, but “the one that is the most adaptable to change.” Evolutionary changes that allow a species to adapt and survive now helps scientists identify functional sequences in the genome. Nonfunctional sequences tend to undergo change more readily than functional areas”, said Green.”(4)
Pointing to Darwin doesn’t always shed a favorable light. Green should be more careful. For the record, Charles Darwin’s original title for the Origin of Species was “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.” Darwin was a eugenicist and the original title clearly exposes his racist views as pointed by his statements on page 521. “At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break between man and his nearest allies will then be wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, even than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as now between the negro or Australian and the gorilla.(5) Quoting Charles Darwin is difficult because he was a racist and his quotes are quite offensive.
The Oxford Dictionary defines eugenics as “The science of improving a human population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics. Developed largely by Francis Galton as a method of improving the human race, it fell into disfavor only after the perversion of its doctrines by the Nazis.” The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines eugenics as “a science that deals with the improvement (as by control of human mating) of hereditary qualities of a race or breed.” Margaret Sanger, Founder Planned Parenthood was also a eugenicist who emphasized the need to provide minorities and the poor with birth control to minimize their populations thereby stagnating what she considered to be undesirable characteristics within the human race. A separate article can be viewed regarding eugenics and Margaret Sanger on this website.
Evolutionism remains an unsupported belief system and yet it is the foundation and main propeller behind the researcher’s quest to discover the unique link between monkeys, mice and man which they believe will bring about the sought after cure. In the United States alone, tax payer monies have killed at least 23 million animals each year. Many of these experiments have no scientific merit, are highly repetitive and have proven to be a lucrative source of income for the universities and research labs. These experiments, as already proven by articles on this website, are inhumane and many remain in deep contrast to the advanced technology and existing data currently available for studies.
In summary and for decades, it has been well documented that the liberal university professors have mocked both Christianity and Christian students as well as those who stand for animal welfare and just look at the alternatives they bring to the table. Back To Top
