When I was in my late teens, I heard our pet cat, Lydia, emitting a deep guttural sound which seemed to be coming from the enclosed porch area. I quickly got up from my living room chair and ran to the porch. As I opened the porch door, I saw that Lydia had a small bird clutched in her mouth. It was tiny adult sparrow. Clearly that explained the guttural sound I heard earlier.
Lydia’s teeth had a very strong grip on the bird making its escape impossible. I ran over to Lydia and tried to disengage the bird from her mouth without doing any harm to the bird. While I tried to hold the cat back with one hand while disengaging her grip on the bird with the other hand, the sparrow escaped from Lydia’s mouth. It dragged its right wing along the floor as it ran alongside the enclosed screening to escape both Lydia and myself. The wing appeared either broken or at least severely injured. It couldn’t fly to even perch on a small piece of porch furniture. Meanwhile Lydia released herself from my control and scurried over to the bird and pounced on it a second time.
Once again, and more determined I went over to Lydia and got the bird away from her. I kept the bird completely covered in my hands and walked away leaving Lydia in a state of frustration since she couldn’t find the bird and had no idea it was cupped in my hands. I left the enclosed porch and walked around to the other side of the house and paused for a moment and spoke aloud the biblical scripture “And the government shall be on His shoulders” as I held the injured bird in my cupped hands.
I continued to walk up the garden area where I came to a final stop. I opened my hands to release the bird. It flew out of my hands. Its flight was perfect. Its wing was no longer injured. Praise Jesus! I gave this testimony in church shorty thereafter.
