I was in my brother and sister-in-law’s backyard helping out with a few chores. It was early evening.  The sun was shining but eventually the cold night would soon settle in.  I noticed their cat, Penny, sprawled out on a section of the lawn that seemed peculiar to me.  I said to her, “Penny, what are you doing here in the open.  You are usually found in the shade where you hide under the bushes?”.  She acknowledged me but ignored my question altogether

Then I realized why she was lounging in an open section of the lawn.  I noticed a chipmunk at least 2-3 feet from her observation.  The pitiful creature could barely walk.  It seemed to stumble and fall over a blade of grass.  I knew it was dying.  Penny had caught it and was watching it suffer.  It is in a cat’s instinct to play with their prey and then subsequently kill or devour it.

I didn’t know what to do.  It was truly suffering.  It acted as if it were drunk.  It would twirl around and then fall over a blade of grass.  It could not walk.  It could not stand.  When it tried to stand – it simply and subsequently stumbled again and again.

I asked my Heavenly Father, “What should I do?  The chipmunk is suffering and surely the cold night will arrive and it will suffer even the more.  Should I allow the cat to simply finish off it’s life?”  I dreaded the thought of asking Father God if I should somehow kill it – although I knew I could not bring myself to do that.  I inquired nevertheless.

Then, the Holy Spirit said to me, “Take dominion.”  So I said loudly to the small creature, “Chipmunk, I’m taking dominion and in the name of Christ Jesus – Be Healed!”  The chipmunk darted away with such swiftness that neither the cat nor I could find it again!

I was a witness to what the Holy Spirit did to heal this little creature.
